The Vision of our Chapter is "To be an indispensable professional resource for healthcare financial managers in Northeast Ohio." The resources we provide to members take many forms: professional
development, educational programming, networking opportunities, and dissemination of technical information.

Besides suffering from a severe case of cabin fever and an intolerable lack of golf, I miss seeing a lot of you who, like me, have been hibernating over the winter. Fortunately we have the Gerry Haggerty Annual Leadership Institute (GHALI) coming up in May, which should cure all those ills. I look forward to seeing you there!

GHALI - What a Site!

Gerry Haggerty Annual Leadership Institute May 13-14
The excitement and anticipation continue to grow as the dates for the GHALI get closer. With a record crowd expected, all the speakers, activities and entertainment plans are coming together with what promises to be the best Institute ever for Northeast Ohio HFMA.

With Glenmoor Country Club as the host site, you can count on this meeting being one of the "must attend" events of the year. The breakouts will have excellent speakers in meeting rooms that will amaze you. The St. Andrew Room, for instance, has its own private courtyard and dinner will take place in the breathtakingly beautiful Chapel, with forty-foot ceilings and huge hanging chandeliers.

Kudos to You!

Teresa Pannell recently joined JPRecovery Services, Inc. as Collection Manager.

Richard E. Clough has been named Vice President, Operations at Robinson Memorial Hospital. Rick had been Robinson's Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer.

Carl Ebner has been named Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Robinson Memorial Hospital. Carl had served as Vice President of Finance at Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, OH.

Congratulations to Unicare Corporation. It is celebrating 20 years of business in 2004.

Congratulations to United Collection Bureau. It is celebrating 45 years of business this year.

Michael Henley has left UHHS as the Director of Reimbursement to be a Vice President with Compliant Healthcare Consulting; Compliant is headquartered in Atlanta, Ga.

Joseph E. Varga has been named Director of Reimbursement for The Center for Health Affairs.

John F. Sideras was named as MetroHealth's executive vice president and chief financial officer, to succeed Terry R. White as new president and chief executive officer.

February Educational Sessions - The Place to Be.

A Morning of Excellence!

The Patient Financial Services Committee sponsored an education session in February that was well attended.

Steve Fidelholtz, President of Medical Billing & Financial Services (MBFS), LTD, discussed how a document imaging tool established workflows and productivity measures. Steve explained that the imaging tool provides desktop access to all documents, tracks 100% of (claims) inventory, and establishes measurable productivity improvements.

Having measurable productivity tools gave MBFS the ability to implement a direct incentive and gain sharing program with its employees. The incentive and gain sharing program rewards employees for performance and quality, improves morale and loyalty, improves profits, and dramatically reduces employee turnover.

Marvin Montgomery, President of Marvin Montgomery & Associates, gave an energetic speech on "Perpetuating Excellence in Customer Service."

"Your Customer may forget what you said. They may even forget what you did. But they will never ever forget how you made them feel."

Marvin emphasized that repeat business and referrals are centered on a well developed customer service culture.

The education session ended with a Payer Panel presentation from Julie Holland, Medical Mutual of Ohio, Teresa Hosa & Crystal Carter, Anthem, and John Heck, United HealthCare. The payors presented helpful information on ways to speed up the claims payment process.

Farmer Brown owns one pregnant pig. How many pigs will he have after:

  1. the pig gives birth to 7 pigs,
  2. 3 of those gives birth to 8 each,
  3. 2 of them gives birth to 4 each,
  4. 1 of those pigs gives birth to 10 pigs?
In this situation, out of every 8 pigs born 2 die.
