Welcome to the 2017-2018 chapter year! I have been a part of the Northeast Ohio Healthcare Financial Management Association (NEO HFMA) for many years and I continue to be amazed at what this organization is able to accomplish. The educational events are always informative and invigorating. I would like to extend a special thank you to all the NEO HFMA members that put in the time and effort to make these events such a success. The NEO HFMA chapter lives by the motto “volunteerism and active participation are the foundation of our chapter’s success.” As we have seen, the healthcare industry is constantly changing. We, as HFMA members, must not only know what is going on currently in the industry, but also what will be happening in the future. That is what makes HFMA such a great organization. We get to hear from industry leaders at our local NEO HFMA, educational events. We also have access to the most up-to-date information in the healthcare industry, in the form of National, Regional and Local webinars, newsletters and articles.
Over the last chapter year, our local chapter earned two Yerger awards for educational events; one for our event at Baldwin Wallace College, Breaking Down the Silos of Healthcare, and one for the Health Care Huddle/Innovation. On a national level, HFMA is at the forefront of several initiatives that will allow the membership to stay ahead of the curve. With programs such as Health Care 2020, HFMA national is examining the major healthcare market trends over the coming years. There is the Patient Friendly Billing Project that “promotes clear, concise, and correct patient-friendly financial communications.” The list of industry-leading initiatives goes on and on.
We have been spent the last year living by the theme of our National Chair, Mary Mirabelli, THRIVE! The 2017-18-chapter year will be led by the National Chair, Carol A. Friesen. The national theme will be ‘Where Passion Meets Purpose”. Carol is looking to the individual chapter members to live our lives, both personally and professionally, by these words. We all look forward to another great year.
I am honored to lead the chapter through the 2017-18 year. From our first chapter president, Dale W. Reed, who served during the 1954-55 year, through our most recent president, Nadia Vincenti, our chapter has established itself as a leading voice in the healthcare industry. I look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming educational events.
Ted Reddy, President
Northeast Ohio Chapter of HFMA
